Internal Affairs Minister George Hawkins has announced the firefighters are to get new, dark blue shirts to replace their existing light blue ones. He says that should prevent them from being mistaken for police officers in future. Mr Hawkins says police have an enforcement role and cases of mistaken identity between the two services can hamper firefighters community safety work." | |

It's Getting Colder.... Do you remember all your winter fire safety tips? Remember: Keep furniture, clothes and curtains at least one metre away from heaters and fire-places. Ashes can take up to five days to cool. Place in a metal container, well clear of your home. Always turn off your electric blanket at the wall before getting into bed. Have blankets checked annually by a competent service person. See here for more information.
