Taradale 551 is currently a Scania 6’3 appliance. It is fitted with a Scania Ds 905 motor of 8480cc rated at 180kw, with a Scania 4 speed automatic transmission.
Taradale 551 was commissioned as Hastings 561 in March 1990. It is fitted with a Darley pump rated at 55 litres per second as well as a Sullair 160 compressor. This unit was fitted to drive the rescue equipment that the appliance carried.
From Hastings the truck then went to Wairoa and in March 2002 the returned to Napier. It was fitted out with B.A. seats in both the rear compartment as well as for the officer’s seat. It became Taradale 551 and took over from our other Scania.
